Coca-Cola names new chief operating officer and announces CFO succession plan

Coca-Cola Co. has named Brian Smith chief operating officer, effective Jan. 1, 2019. He’s a 21-year veteran of the company and currently group president of EMEA, a role he’s been in since 2016. Coke also announced that Chief Financial Officer Kathy Waller will retire after 32 years with the company; she’s been CFO since 2014. John Murphy, president of Coke’s Asia-Pacific group, will become deputy CFO, effective Jan. 1, 2019, and CFO on March 16, 2019. Murphy has held his current position since 2016, and has been with Coca-Cola since 1988. Nancy Quan, chief technical officer for Coca-Cola North America, has been named chief technical officer succeeding Ed Hays, who is retiring March 31, 2019. And Barry Simpson, chief information officer, has an expanded role with the same title, effective Jan. 1, 2019. Coca-Cola shares are nearly unchanged for the year to date while the Dow Jones Industrial Average is up 3.5% for the period.
