Climate activists snarl traffic Monday in Washington, D.C.

Climate activists blocked vehicle traffic at multiple key intersection during Monday morning’s rush hour in Washington, D.C., as they tweeted about their protests using the #ShutDownDC hashtag. They have said they want to “shut down business-as-usual, so the status quo of delay, inaction, and half measures is no longer an option.” Affected intersections included Independence Avenue SW at 12th Street and Connecticut Avenue NW at K Street. The climate strike in Washington is part of a week-long global effort that began last Friday.
