U.S. stocks try for third straight daily gain as tech recovers

U.S. stocks rose on Thursday, with major indexes on track for their third straight daily advance as technology stocks rebounded from a spate of recent weakness. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.4% to 23,371. If the blue-chip average ends in positive territory, that would mark its first three-day rally since one ending Feb. 26. The S&P 500 gained 0.4% to 2,656, and could post its first three-day gain since March 6. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 0.8% to 7,096; Thursday would represent its first three-day rally since March 12. Large-capitalization technology and internet stocks were among the biggest gainers of the day, with Facebook up 3.5% and Amazon.com Inc. up 2%. The group has been under heavy pressure of late, contributing to recent losses in the tech-heavy Nasdaq. Also supporting equities on Thursday was a diminishing focus on the prospects of a trade war between China and the U.S.
